Hey guys--new user here. Personally I am a VW/Audi guy. But my 18year old son just bought a 2000 ZX3 with the zetec engine, manual tranny. PO put in a short ram hot air intake and slapped a breather filter on the end of the PCV hose from the valve cover.

Alternator light is on, but I got 13.5 volts across the battery with the engine running.

Car does not start with the ignition switch. Apparently it did with a battery charger connected to it when he was looking at it. Seller said it was the battery.

Car ran ok once it was started, but alt light was on.

Took it to Advance Auto to have it tested, and they said that the battery was good. Don't know what they said about the alternator (which I suspected was bad from the start).

When the key is turned to the start position, you cannot hear the starter solenoid click. Car pop starts easily.

Now we have an additional issue. "helpful" dude at Advance (I wasn't there, just my son) started messing around to check out the starter. Now the car will not idle. CEL is on, pulled a system too lean code and a code for the ignition coil. I can get the exact codes but do not recall them at the moment. I think "helpful" dude dislodged a hose causing a good vac leak, but it was too dark to check out the car when my son returned.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been working on cars (mostly VW and Toyotas) for ever, but new to the Ford game. Sure my son will be registering on here soon too.

Looking at the part's location it looks like I will be needing to take the whole engine out... I am attaching some pictures so any help is greatly appreciated. Does anybody have or knows where to get an 02 Focus repair service manual? Googled my brains out but no luck.

What gives. I like to keep the adjustable headrest at its lowest point (yep I'm not tall) but within a day of driving I'll notice it's back up at the top...... So freaking annoying. I don't drive anywhere excessively rough or anything. Everything seems to be in order as far as functionality, button works and holds it up. You can feel the clicks after depressing the button to move it down and no excessive resistance on the way, but no matter whether you want it at the bottom or any other notch for that matter it ends sitting on the top notch. It's a small problem but my fuzzy little head is about to explode with frustration....... Any ideas?

Well don't know if there's too much benefit but sounds like its got hair on its chest now! And I figured sound baffle ha! Wasn't that invented by picky neighbors?
[poke]And I'm guessing it was just another giant plastic piece to restrict air flow. Quik way to get ur stock focus atleast sound like it hit puberty hahahaha.[woot]

Hey, just a heads up on an issue I am having,

My cruise control intermitantly fails to respond atall when trying to turn it on. I.E. I have no cruise control. Finally got it to happen today while the dealership was open so they could see the issue. They kindly took five minutes to scan the car right away so I could get to work on time, as of now im waiting to hear back for their findings.

Like I said, just mentioning what I think is a new issue, not by any means complaining about the car, I do love it.

I have a 2012 Focus and love the thing.

In a couple weeks I'm going on an extended camping trip and am wanting AC power. I am hoping to use a 150W power inverter in the cig lighter to charge my laptop, and blow up an air mattress that has a built in air pump. The pump rates at 120 VAC 60HZ 1.0AMP.

I tried this in a Fiesta a number of years back and popped a fuse. Will the same thing happen here?

Thanks much.

When it rains with some force I get water trickeling down under the passenger side carpet under the dash.
Thought it might be a\c evaporator but directly related to rain. Drips down underneath carpet and don't have an idea where it might start from. There is no build up of debris in the filter area for the cabin and nowhere else as well
